At AJK Family Dentistry, Dr. Adam Kennedy uses leading-edge dental technology to streamline your dental treatment and make our procedures straightforward and reliable.
Technology often eliminates human error and provides accuracy and precision that traditional methods may lack.
A good example is digital x-rays that we use at our Bellevue, WA dental practice. Traditional x-rays can be uncomfortable (and environmentally caustic), while digital dental x-rays keep you comfortable and help us diagnose oral health issues as soon as they start. Digital images allow us to share what we see with patients on a monitor near the dental chair.
Digital radiography, or digital x-rays, captures images with digital images instead of traditional x-ray film. They are an essential diagnostic tool that provides critical insight into your oral health.
The Benefits of Digital X-Rays
Digital x-ray images give our preventive dentist insight into your oral health that isn't immediately apparent during a visual examination. With modern dental help, we can see what's happening inside your teeth and under your gums, all the way down to your bone structure.
On top of letting us know of any current cavities, we can take a look at problem areas in your mouth that could potentially lead to future issues.
By knowing where to look and what to look for, Dr. Kennedy can be more precise with his dental cleanings and exams. If we see inflamed or swollen gums, we can take extra precautions during our appointment to ensure everything looks fine.
- Digital x-rays cut down patient radiation exposure by up to 90 percent
- Dr. Kennedy can view and zoom in on images, making diagnosing a breeze
- We do not have to process film, which reduces the disposal of environmentally harmful waste and chemicals
- We can screen for abscesses or cysts and bone loss
- Easy identification of tumors
- Oral health issues like tooth decay and infection are easy to spot
- We can observe root positions and any issues below the gum line
- Early identification of dental problems
- Examine existing dental restorations like dental crowns or bridges
- Check for gum disease
- Oral cancer screening
- Watch out for impacted teeth
What Is the Digital X-Ray Process?
The procedure is similar to traditional x-rays but with the addition of an electronic sensor to take intraoral images instead of uncomfortable film bitewings.
Dr. Kennedy can obtain a full-mouth view with eighteen different positions of your teeth and jaw bone. We check teeth and roots for disease, decay, or injury, as well as the jaw bone.
Once the digital images are complete, we can immediately share with our dental staff, other clinics, insurance providers, and transfer to your patient records. This takes just seconds, and Dr. Kennedy can alter the color, contrast, and brightness.
We utilize Dentrix and have digital sensors that work with DEXIS for periapical x-rays (root to tip), bitewings (horizontal), and a digital panoramic.
