Children's Dentistry

We know how important family is within our community. We love having children grow up with us at AJK Family Dentistry. If you are looking for a gentle and compassionate children's dentist, we invite you to schedule your little one's first dental visit with us.

When your little one has their first tooth emerge, please bring him/her to our dental office. Building positive experiences and oral habits at a young age is crucial, and we are there to help guide parents as they navigate their kid's growing chompers.

We know how busy lives can be, and no parent wants to schedule dental appointments at different clinics all over the place. We make your life easier by treating everyone in your family, no matter what age. You can even make it a family outing!

If you're looking for a kind and attentive dentist for your family, we serve patients of all ages.

When Should I Start Bringing My Child to the Dentist?

It is essential to introduce your baby to good oral habits as soon as possible so they can enjoy a lifetime of dental success. An early start can allow us to identify and treat oral health problems right when they start and make the experience positive and stress-free.

We recommend bringing your baby to see us as soon as their teeth start to emerge, or by the age of three. Of course, we welcome earlier visits if that is your preference.

At AJK Family Dentistry, it is our pleasure to create an enjoyable and fun experience for little smiles and building long-lasting relationships as our young patients grow up.

What Will My Child's First Visit Entail?

Your child's first visit is very special to us; it's essential that we create a relaxing and positive experience. Dr. Kennedy talks through what he's doing and allows your child to get used to sights and sounds around them. Together, we count teeth, show them how to brush correctly, and get them used to a tooth examination.

Your child's first visit is mostly about letting them get used to the idea of the importance of oral health and trusting their family dentist.

Parents may have questions on how best to brush and floss their child's teeth. We recommend that parents supervise their children's oral habits until they are eight years old. Many children are not able to reach all their teeth properly.

This is an excellent time for parents to ask questions, address concerns, and establish a healthy at-home routine. Dentistry is a collaborative process, and your family dentist forms a partnership with each patient with the mutual focus being your child's lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

Preventing Cavities in Your Child

At AJK Family Dentistry, we slowly work our way up to helping your child feel comfortable with dental cleanings. As soon as they are ready for their first cleaning, we remove plaque and tartar build-up that can happen even with the most diligent brushing and flossing.

We also take digital x-rays so we can look for signs of cavities, infection, gum disease, and more. We also check to ensure that their permanent teeth are coming in straight.

We can educate parents and families about diet and nutrition and how they often contribute to cavities.

Pediatric Services for Your Child

The type of dental treatments we offer your child will evolve as they grow, and their oral health needs change.

Cavities and tooth decay are the most common issue that young children face. When food particles cling to teeth after meals, they can become acidic and eat at the tooth enamel.

Your pediatric dentist, Dr. Kennedy, can get rid of any signs of tooth decay and fill cavities to prevent bacteria from entering. We offer tooth-colored fillings, so your child's smile continues to look beautiful. Your child will not feel any pain or discomfort throughout their dental procedure.

We offer dental sealants for children who have high occurrences of cavities. Sealants are a clear coating that we apply to the surface of your son or daughter's tooth to protect the deep grooves that are hidden from toothbrushes. Sealants are a straightforward and non-invasive procedure that is cost-effective and can last up to five years.
